What is Wintergreen Essential Oil: Wintergreen oil is a valuable essential oil that’s extracted from the leaves of the Gaultheria procumbens . Steam distilled, and after being steeped in warm water wintergreen leaves release beneficial enzymes called methyl salicylates.  Wintergreen oil has a sweet and fresh scent and smell, very similar to that of peppermint oil, it has a wide variety of uses in foods, teas, aromatherapy, beauty and household products . Precautions and contraindications of wintergreen essential oil: Wintergreen essential oil should not be used by pregnant or nursing women. It is prohibited to children under 6 years. It is prohibited for people who are allergic to aspirin. A skin test must be performed before any use. Wintergreen essential oil cannot be used internally. Even if wintergreen is very useful as a pain reliever, it is important to be very prudent when using wintergreen oil. Methyl salicylate is highly toxic. Do not consume it, still when diluted.
